What is the difference between an Immigration Consultant and a Lawyer?
Lawyers are regulated by the Law Society of Upper Canada whereby Immigration Consultants are regulated by the Canadian Society of Immigration Consultants. New regulations have been put in place to regulate Immigration Consultants and to prevent misrepresentation. Just like lawyers, Immigration Consultants are recognized by Citizenship & Immigration Canada and are authorizaed to deal with this government body as third party representatives.

How long does it take to obtain Permanent Residence status in Canada?
Delays vary depending on the work load of each Embassy. Delays are also specific to each applicant as they are required to undergo requisite medical examinations and are subject to various background and security checks. These procedures vary from one applicant to another depending on their unique set of circumstances. Consequntely, delays in obtaining a permanent resident visa may vary from six (6) months to two (2) years or more.
Do landed immigrants enjoy the same privileges as Canadian citizens?
Landed immigrants are entitled to the same rights and privileges as Canadian citizens however, there are two exceptions: 1) they are not permitted to vote in Canadian elections and, 2) they must fulfill their residency obligations, specifically and most importantly, they must be physically present in Canada for 2 years over a period of 5 year period.
